At 2 pm today a sweet client swore their tinted windows were sunscreen, so I grabbed the UV flashlight and showed how the driver-side freckles pop through glass… We had a laugh, then did a quick UVA chat and I sent them out with a travel SPF 50 — education with a chuckle.
I keep a brush-on mineral SPF in my cup holder and tell clients to do three quick swipes on the left cheek, temple, and hands at red lights — especially on those 2 pm drives when the “driver-side freckles” sneak up. Your UV flashlight demo sells it, but I add that some ceramic tints block more UVA and still say reapply anyway. If they want receipts, I point to https://www.skincancer.org/risk-factors/uva-and-uvb/.
I hang a $2 UV-reactive bead keychain from my rearview, and at 2 pm it still turns purple through the driver-side glass — quicker than pulling out the UV flashlight and a nice visual to back up ‘tint ≠ sunscreen’ before I send them with a travel SPF 50. It isn’t a dose meter, so I remind them the windshield blocks more UVB than UVA and to reapply or toss on a UPF driving glove if they’re stuck in traffic.
